vixensheader

The Vixens are Jasmine Balmer (vocals), Cato De Chalain (bass), Breeze Radford (drums) & Maddy Whyte (guitar), and they have all the right elements to become your new favourite up and coming band. They've released their debut self titled EP and it's a two track stunner that will leave you wanting more - catchy riffs, great melodies and Jasmine's powerful vocals make for a winning combination.

With individual musical tastes & influences ranging from Queens Of The Stone Age & Nirvana to Paramore, The Vixens create a sound that's a little grunge, a little rock, with a twist of indie-pop.
They're a young, all girl band with some bite, and we love that.

Having formed in late 2008, in the space of ten months this talented foursome produced four songs, cut an EP with two originals - and quite possibly left a trail of adoring male fans in their wake. Their latest song ‘Looking Back’ was premiered at Galatos, in their last gig of 2009, and we can't wait to see what's on the horizon in 2010 for The Vixens. We talked to Jasmine about the band...

ThevixensWhat inspired you guys to form a band? How long have you been together for?
We're all really into music and just wanted to make our own sound, and follow our dreams I guess. It took us a while, but we eventually formed term 3 of ’08 I think?

How would you describe your sound?
Hmm , sort of Mexican/alternative/indie/pop punk and whatever else. That’s what I like best - it’s almost as if we don’t ‘fit’ into any one category.

What are you working on at the moment?
We're just polishing up a few of our songs so we can finally play a five set, haha.

What’s the long term goal for your band?
I think right now we're just taking one step at a time. Long term, hopefully we’ll release some albums and do some touring. But we’re just focusing on making our sound and getting ourselves out there and heard! We’ll see what happens.

Which artists are your biggest influences?
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

What’s been the hardest thing about getting a band up and running?
Bad memory with forgetting songs we wrote the week before...
(that might just be me. lol)

Why do you love music?
I don’t wan't to be corny or anything, but it’s a huge blessing in ours and others lives. You're able to release yourself and everything you feel and just be real. Music allows you to get away from everything and find yourself again, without all the crap and expectations. It's an indescribable feeling. Whether it's listening to stuff that sets you off or maybe even sets you free, there’s nothing like it. And to be able to play and perform together and show people who we are and what were about is awesome!
