Relaxing Music for Kids

Many parents see the bedtime as a real nightmare. However, almost everyone knows about the incredible power of relaxing lullabies that are used as the mean for soothing for centuries.

Although we often think that the children’s life is carefree, the fact is that children go through stressful situations too – for example, enrollment in kindergarten, socializing with peers, inability to master some toy… All this can cause discomfort and anger in them. When you notice that your child is upset, you could play them music for relaxation.

How to choose the perfect relaxing music for children?

It is clear that relaxing music should not call for a dance or to animate the game. On the contrary – an ideal relaxing music should have the following characteristics:

  • Steady beat. It allows the body to slow down the pace, slow down brain activity and heart rate. This is a half way to relax. It is best that this beat is around 60 times a minute because then the brain synchronizes with it and enters into the Alpha state. This is the state of consciousness and relaxation. After 45 minutes of relaxation, your brain will come into the Delta state, which is a state of sleep.
  • Harmonic tones and slow rhythm. Studies have shown that babies and children are more comfortable with harmonic tones and that slow rhythms relax them. Inharmonious and loud tones have the completely opposite effect.
  • Lack of voices. If you want an ideal relaxing music, then it should not have lyrics that will distract the attention. Ideal relaxing music is instrumental.
  • Sounds from the environment.  The wind, waves, the rustling of leaves combined with other light tones  are relaxing. In some way, it is expected – the man is a part of nature. The waves and the wind can remind babies and children at the time spent in the womb. There is no silence. In fact, the babies are surrounded by sounds from the amniotic fluid that sounds like wind or water.

Music for relaxation can help children to relax, channel their anger and stress and fall asleep more easily. Enough sleep is very important for adults, and especially for children. Sleep provides enough energy for progress and gaining new knowledge.

What kind of music to choose for relaxation?

If you have in mind  the above criteria, the music for relaxation of your child may be one of the following:

  • Classical music from the Baroque times. This includes the most famous names in classical music such as Mozart, Bach, Brahms or Haydn, and instruments such as piano, violin clarinet or flute.
  • New age music for relaxation that includes digital and electronic instruments combined in light and harmonious melodies.
  • Music  played on natural instruments like some sorts of Native Instruments, wooden flutes, and stringed instruments. They act soothing even when they are played  relatively loud.
  • The sounds of the surroundings as wind, rain, waves, etc. combined with the gentle music.

Music can reduce stress and act like a medicine. Numerous experience and researches have shown that it can reduce stress and enable relaxation. Mostly, it is a classical music with some light tones. This kind of music may reduce heart rate and high blood pressure. These are all characteristics of restlessness that do not need to be treated with medications, especially when children are concerned.

How you will choose an ideal music for relaxation depends on your child. Every child is an individual. What relaxes one child, does not have to be the rule for another. Start with yourself – we do not like the same things. To choose a perfect  music, you will have to do a small experiment and see what it likes. This does not mean that it must become a passionate lover of Brahms or Mozart. It is enough that the music does not irritate and that relaxes. Do not worry, you will notice these effects easily.

Does your child already know how to relax with favorite tunes, or you are waiting that it discovers the amazing power of music alone? We’d love to know!

Music can improve your kids’ mood, keep you motivated and give you energy. It is composed of tones, and they are actually vibrations that are transmitted through the ear to the brain. There, they leave the signal to the body how to react to the vibration. Most often our body adapts to these external vibrations – tones, rhythms, and melodies. And that is something that we do from an early age. Have you noticed that your children begin to jump and try to dance when you play a joyful melody? The music moves them and forces them to dance. In the same way that motivates, music can calm down and relax your kids. You have to admit that this is very important, especially when it comes sleeping time for your child.
